Shed Update !

It's done!
Yep my shed is finally finshed!

It started in December 2008 and finished in August 2009. Thats long enough to build a house!!

Oh Well....

Here is some pics of the process, though I missed a bit of construction...

Pad preparation (bobcat dude):

The concrete forming goes in:
The concrete is poured:Turns out that they made the concrete pad badly out of square... :(

Shed arrives and goes up in a week.... :)

Missed a bit here and there you go one shed!

Many thanks to those that helped in the process, you know who you are!! :)

The Shed has landed!

One small step for me, one giant leap for my sanity! :)

Yes it has arrived, and on the very day expected! the new owners of Shedco namely West Coast Sheds have proved to be people of their word. Delivered free of charge and it all seems to be there!

It arrived yesterday (21st July 2009) and today I started the errection process.

With a little help from my friendly neighbor, the first of four A frames has been bolted to the somwhat out-of square concrete slab. So now it's all up to me :)

Thats the way I like it....

So I guess a long and stressful saga of the lost shed has now come to a close. RIP Shedco

P.S To David Ahchee, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits...

News Update!

Sorry for the delay in posts, I have become so busy doing so many things that the blog has been overlooked.

Well to update you....

Firstly the shed....we have only just finished the whole long painfully slow Shed co trouble.
It started with the company we had ordered a shed through going bust with our money(ordered the shed in Nov 2008).
Well it finished last week with a new order for the same shed from the new owner!
The main differences are this time, only a 6% deposit has been outlaid not a %50 one, and we signed the deal with the owner of the company. So the previous owner has got away with a lot of my money, and 500 other customers money, and apparently this is the third time he has pulled this trick. So much for our justice system!
So hopefully in about 3 weeks time we should have a pile of shed components in the back yard...

I have not been sitting round doing nothing feeling sorry for myself all this time however!

Here's a list of some things I have got done in past months...

  • Front porch clean and paint (lots of paint stripping fun there!)
  • Front porch weather shield construction(translucent corrugated sheeting with steel frame)
  • Installed last new window to laundry, now all new alloy windows have been installed.
  • Built and populated new vegi garden
  • Started digging out front rh driveway and found previously unknown retaining wall!
  • Finished the bathroom upgrade with towel rails..
  • Finished kitchen window architrave and painted.
  • Started insulating the house(pink batts) ceiling with Sarah's room Ben's next and ours and rest of house later :) (this job really sucks, hurts ma knees like crap! Starting to sound like an old man :)
  • Rebuilt the patio at the rear, with new timber and new colourbond custom orb tin(30 sqm finally some weather protection!)
  • Oh and of course had a tripple car concrete pad laid ready for a shed that never came!
I am sure that there are many other things I cant remember right now, but you can see I've been busy, but ya know when I walk about the house, ya really cant see much that I have done at all DOH!
So anyways almost made it through this school term, holidays approaching ya!!! Planning some fun with ma Son and Daughter these holidays should be good!!

Shed Trouble!

Well just when I think the shed is going to be in before I know it, the shed supplier goes bust with my money!!! DOH!! I simply cannot believe it! They have my 50% deposit and things are looking grim. Still God is on the case and several people are praying that the shed will come, so things are tipping in our favour! :) So anyways if ya like you could pray for us and the shed too :)

Hopefully we will find out more this coming week, when we should be able to talk to the recievers...

Shed pad begins!

Well, after three trips to the red hill tip I finally got the site works men in to make a pad for our new shed. I must have dug a ton of heavy metal scrap out of the yard. It seems that a previous owner had been invloved in the trucking industry and has left most of it behind. I also pulled down one small shed with my patrol and cut the other main shed in half to make way for the new pad. This was much fun, and was enjoyed by my friendly neighbour almost as much as me. Anyways it was when the Bob Cat man came to smash up an existing one car pad that we ran into trouble.

The start....

We all assumed that the pad would be a relatively thin one and be easy for him to break up with his large bobcat. Well, were we wrong! It turned out to be over 750mm thick in places and nowhere was thinner than 260mm AND it was reinforced!! This pad was made to park a tank! We had to get a rock breaker in for four hours and it was too much for his machine it was broken when he left! But we got done what we needed and the Bobcat man was able to push the remaining concrete mountains around for the outline of the pad.

The end of the day...

He will return tomorrow and finsh the pad with more fill and sand. I will post a short video of the action and some pics....

Cheers

Advertising Horror to our kids

I dont know about you, but I am finding the growing level of horror on display in public to be disturbing to say the least. In the past we have found that certain DVD rental stores display all the modern horror films very prominently around their stores making it very hard to take our kids there to choose a movie. We have moved DVD stores since and there is a slight improvement. However today Naomi found SAW V advertising splashed across several display boards in KMART at midland directly in front of the toys area where all young kids would see the horrific images displayed on their way to the toys. Now these images even give me the creeps and I am 38, I cannot imagine how they would have affected me at my sons age of six. God tells us to dwell on wonderful pure and lovely thing for a reason. We are shaped by our environment as we grow up. There's no telling how a child exposed to these evil movies and images will grow up but I think these things will do a great disservice to children exposed, and probably the larger community as time passes. I think the moral desert that our society is becoming has at least partly come about because young children were exposed to things somewhat less than pure. The Bible tells us that Those that Hate God love death, and I see it everyday in our young people and exposing kids to this kind of horrific evil is paving the way for the kind of behaviour depicted in these evil movies. I hear the news readers on TV saying how terrible it is when seeing the tragic aftermath of some mindless violence on our streets and the very next advert shows some horrific movie involving killing death and debortuary and no-one seems to be able to link the media's constant barrage of this kind of absolute vomit to have anything to do with people's behaviour in general. Well it does!!!!! It's called influence, God tells us to be very careful about what we take into our minds because he know how easy we are influenced, this is surely more important now than ever before in this age of information. Some have said to me that information is the key to all problems ie the internut. This is sooo not true. In fact I think that the age of information has just spread the rot to younger and younger people faster and faster. Ultimate information corrupts ultimately.

So after that rant what do I do.....do we boy cot Kmart? Do we send hundreds of letters...?
The fact is that it is society that has become open to these kinds of things that allows them to be there in the first place. I guess if no-one complains or does anything I guess nothing will change.
The challenge for us is to do something. I pray that some of us (Bible believing Christians) will have the corrage to do something....

More of the same

Well, I have got back to the windows this week and now only have the laundry left!
Started with Ben's room a month ago and today fitted the sixth one and the biggest in the lounge room. Phew!!! Luckily the last one for the laundry is the smallest one :) The improvement of just replacing an old stlye badly weathered wood window(no insect screen) with a lovely new white alloy one is just fantastic !! also rennovating and painting the sils you understand...:) Also been moving all crap to the front curb due to an impending curbside collection (my favourite!!!!), the pile out the front respembles the north side of the Eiger! And it continues to grow. The date for putting stuff out starts tomorrow but I started a week early because I knew how much rubbish I had to move :) I have cut down one tree and have one to go...During the week I also picked up my latest machine to help me get it all done....a ride on mower...I know I know my yard is not that big, but my back is really poor and believe it or not pushing a mower around puts me in agony for days after....the ride one (Big Red) also came with a trailer and boy have I been working it hard so far...I recon I have but a couple of ton through it in a week, most of which had ended up on the curb..I really have to get the site works going for the shed soon so have to get the old shed down and get that happening...still have bits in the bathroom and kitchen to do ....so
no rest for me!! :) But I could never be happy with nothing to do!! Will post pics later on.... :)

Kitchen and Bathroom nearing completion

Well, sorry but I have skipped a bit! I got so bogged down in the nitty of tiling the bathroom and fitting kitchen tops (both monumental tasks I might add :) that I have neglected to update this blog with some meaningful updates...soz.

Well the kitchen base cupboards are finished, and by that I mean the cupboards that reside on the floor are all done. Tops in, sink in and operational doors all went on 2 days ago and I finished fitting handles today. So the kitchen is fully operational the only things left to do are:

  1. Build and fit overhead cupboards (in a few weeks...)
  2. Finish new kitchen window installation with some alluminium trim and wood architrave and paint
  3. Finish doorway architrave and paint

  1. And the in bathroom just need to paint walls that dont have tiles (not very much wall)
  2. Replace existing door with a new fancy one and new handles
3. Possibly replace old window with shiny new white alloy one :)

So there ya go, still much to do but really starting to feel like I am making progress...

Am at Grannys now so will post photos of all the action soon :)

Bathroom Begins

Well it's a little late but here is the bathroom update!
I decided that while I was waiting for the kitchen top and doors to arrive from Proform, I would begin on the bathroom so that we could have a much needed shower! Well that was about a week ago now, and things have been moving on. I finished stripping the old plaster from the walls and ceiling and got my favourite plumber in to remove the old basin and pipes.

I then bought a fair bit of aquacheck gyprock (the wet area version) and prepped the studs etc and began to line the room. Well that was days ago, and all the gyprock is in. The electrician came yesterday and fitted the new heat lights to the ceiling and mirror light on the wall above where the vanity will go(something else I have to make :)

The jobs left at this point are finish the cornices (2 done so far) and flush all the joints, and woe is me, begin the tiling (sob). I don't like tiling very much and tried to get out of it by trying to convince Nao to go for the imitation tile board from laminex or parbury's. However the cost of these boards is just crazy....about $240 for a 2.4 x 1.2 sheet. By my estimate that's about four times more expensive than tiles....just mad! So I could not even convince myself that it was worth the extra expense. I also read on a forum that the boards wear badly....so stuff that! Tiles it is...
So there ya have it, I will post some pics shortly of all the excitement.... :)

Willingly ignorant - 2 Peter 3:5

Lately I have been watching a series of videos by Answers in Genesis' Ken Ham. I have found them to be very good with a strong biblical foundation. One point that has stuck in my head today is from the video "Is there really a God?" Ken remarks on the irony of the Seti project.
When the first pulsar was found in July 1967, the scientists immediately thought that the pulsing signal was alien they even called it LGM-1 for "little green men".

Musing on this for a while Ken points out that when scientists look at DNA, the code of life extremely complex (Our entire DNA sequence would fill 200 1,000-page New York City telephone directories -100 Facts About DNA by Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei) they say that it happened by chance, But they get a simple pulsing signal and immediately they point to little green men...thats just not smart thinking is it!

DNA is a witness for the majesty of God.
A hugely complex set of information, a blue print, detailed instructions for the machines of life to read and obey, already existing machines. What use is detailed information with no one to read it, or understand it. Yet another chicken or the egg problem for the evolutionist.....
A set of super complex beautifully designed and constructed plans straight from God for us to see.

2 Peter 3:5
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water

I can see in the future when we have much larger problems than global warming and the fight against evolution namely the enforced culture of Islam that is spreading alarmingly fast across the world, that we will look back and wonder how anyone could believe that super detailed information could be added by accident into the genome. Thats just dumb!
Evolution is, to use Jeremy Clarkson's expression "Absolute rubbish!" it's got nothing!

In the end those that are willingly ignorant will see the light of the God that they deny...
Maybe we will hear a few...."DOH!"s or "you were right..." anyway if we dont keep telling who we can, maybe thay won't here the creation truth from anyone else....lets face it, the Muslim's are'nt going to tell anyone, they will just just kill.....so keep doing something :)

I read the book, we win!

Kitchen Progress

Well there has been some progress on the cupboards...

The drawers are all done and only one cupboard remains to build of the base kitchen cupboards.
Next I need to order the postformed tops and vinyl wrapped doors, while I wait for them to arrive I will get back to the bathroom so maybe we can have a shower soon.....starting to smell now....not good :)

We also managed to get aircon installed(ducted evap) and just in time for the latest hot weather, Australia Day is pretty warm and a little humid, but the new aircon is doing a great job of making it feel nice :)

Anyways..

Water Oh No!!

Well, after days of record hot tempreatures last night we copped an excellent thunder storm with plenty of rain! Normally I would be revelling in the all the excitment of the event. However my shed (the old one) is a little less than perfect.

It has many holes where rain gets in, and no front wall where the long sloping driveway channels a small river into it whenever we have a downpour. The shed is also stuffed full of our stuff in moving boxes, and the little space that I made for building the kitchen cupboards. So you may understand why in the middle of the night I was braving the lightning and pouring rain dragging new cupboards and stacked melamine out of the water running throughout my shed!!
After all the excitement nothing got damaged, and the new cupboard and stacked melamine are all okay(phew!) and I even managed to sit with my son on his bed at 2am and watch a fantastic display of God's power in the form of a raging thunder and lightning storm!

Fords are the best!

Late last year I had the wonderful oportuinity to purchase yet another Ford as mentioned previously. For a 1999 car with the level of comfort that it has the fairmont or indeed any Australian

Ford falcon etc is an absolute bargain. Ours has done over 200,000km but is in excellent condition and has shown no signs of trouble. I just keep coming back to the humble arguably ugly AU Ford. Fords rule! Cheap to buy, cheap to fix comfy to use great on the highway, excellent on LPG. This time we got a wagon and it has already proved invaluable fitting a far bigger payload than my 3 ton Nissan Patrol (patsy). It is my favourite car to drive much nicer than the big Patrol. So until it breaks and needs something other than tyres shocks and brakes, it is the best!!

Chances are that if you see a hoon or an idiot speeding it will be a commodore....
Fix Australia, drive a ford!

The Kitchen begins!

Well, the kitchen gyprock is all done and painted, and the appliances for the new kitchen have arrived :)

Including a Asko dishwasher, electralux rangehood, under cupboard lighting from ikea.
So now it's up to me to produce a set of kitchen cupboards! I have already built most of the bases (separate to the cupboards) using a nice plywood (never done that before! No crappy chipboard on the floor for us :))

Today I will finish off the plywood bases and begin the cupboards themselves being made from the normal white melamine 16mm. I expect to be nearing completion in a week and a half not including the custom door manufacturer and the bull nosed custom bench tops all yet to be ordered pending some discussion .
There are a few other things in the kitchen to do like the architrave on the doorway that I rebuilt and window architraves etc but they can all be finished post cupboards... Photos will follow...soon....

Anyways...

Reasons to doubt evolution Part 2

The Age of the Earth and the universe.

Evidence for a young Earth is mutual evidence for Biblical creation, because evolution requires many millions if not billions of years if it were possible at all, which I believe it is not.

Here are some facts that point to a young Earth and Universe.

Carbon-14 has not yet reached equilibrium in our atmosphere.
Polystate fossils found world wide breaching layers of sediment supposedly millions of years old.
Non fossilised flesh on dinosaur bones supposedly millions of years old.
Not enough salt in the sea for millions of years of erosion etc.
The continents should already have eroded flat if the Earth were millions of years old.
The rate of decay of the Earth's magnetic field.
The fact that the moon is moving away from the Earth at a rate of one inch per year.
Very low numbers of supernovas.

There is much more like this that you will not find the science teachers telling their students...
There is more than enough evidence above alone that should bring a doubt to your mind about
the "Theory of Evolution".

I will continue to post on the subject...:)
